What Closer Lives Means to Us: Travel, Mindset and Intentional Living
Closer Lives began with poetry, and then morphed into a travel adventure that is so much more than simply just a collection of continents and countries.
Yes, we love the landmarks, the food, the unexpected views from a train or coach window, and the thrill of arriving somewhere new. That goes without saying.

But the parts that we appreciate the most go beyond the sights. Things like conversations that change how we see a place, the rhythm of an ordinary local neighborhood, or the perspective that comes from living differently for so long.
That is why our tagline has always mattered so much to us:
We Explore More Than Maps, We Journey Through Mindsets.
Key Takeaways
● What Closer Lives is: Our work is about more than destinations; it connects travel with mindset, relationships, curiosity, and the choices that shape how we actually live.
● How we approach travel: We value ordinary neighbourhoods, conversations, cultural context, and lived experience alongside landmarks, itineraries, and practical advice.
● What we hope you take from it: Use our stories and resources as prompts to travel more intentionally, question default assumptions, and build a life that feels more aligned with what matters to you.
More Than Maps

After five years of full-time travel and 45 countries together, we have learned that seeing more of the world is not automatically the same as understanding it more deeply.
A fast itinerary can be exciting, but it can also leave little space for the parts of a place that do not fit neatly into a list of attractions.
We prefer long-term travel where we can (it all comes down to the visa really). Staying longer gives us time to learn our surroundings, return to a favorite local restaurant, understand how people move through the day, and let a destination become more than a backdrop.
In the main, we like to stick to 30-day stays as a minimum. This gives us a solid length of time, with the added bonus of slightly cheaper Airbnb rates!
💡 Our destination guides combine practical planning details with the honest stories and small observations that helped each place stay with us, and hopefully with you, too!
Journeying Through Mindsets

Travel has a way of asking us to question assumptions. It invites us to notice how differently people live, communicate, celebrate, work, and define a good life.
Those lessons have certainly influenced how we approach our work, our creativity, our relationships, and the way we tell stories.
For us, mindset is not about pretending every experience is positive. Full-time travel can be tiring, uncertain, and occasionally messy. Plans change. The internet fails. Homesickness can appear when least expected.
But those moments are part of the learning too! They encourage flexibility, curiosity, and a little more compassion for the ways other people choose to live.
What Intentional Living Looks Like for Us
Intentional living does not mean following a perfect routine or having every answer. It means making choices with more awareness.
We try to ask whether our work supports the life we want, whether we are leaving enough room to experience the places we visit, and whether we are still making time for the people and projects that matter.
✓ Choosing slower stays when possible, rather than constantly racing to the next destination.
✓ Building work around a sustainable travel rhythm instead of treating productivity as the only measure of a good day.
✓ Looking beyond the obvious attractions and staying open to local stories, ordinary routines, and new perspectives.
✓ Sharing honestly, including the lessons that did not arrive in the glossy version of travel.
Travel Advice With a Different Starting Point
The way we travel shapes the advice we share. We do not believe every trip needs to be slow, expensive, or life-changing.
Sometimes you have a long weekend, a limited budget, or only one chance to see a place. But wherever possible, we encourage travelers to look beyond a checklist.
That might mean choosing one neighborhood to explore properly, learning a few local customs before arriving, leaving room for an unplanned afternoon, or asking what kind of trip you genuinely need.
Travel can be adventurous and ambitious while still being thoughtful.
Why We Share It
Closer Lives is the place where all of those threads meet. Travel is at the heart of it, but it sits alongside lifestyle, creativity, social media, personal growth, and the work required to build a life with more freedom.
We are not here to tell anyone there is one right way to travel, work remotely, or change their life.
We simply share what we have experienced, what we are still learning, and the questions that keep following us from one place to the next.
Some readers arrive looking for practical help with an itinerary, a visa section, or staying connected abroad.
Others find us through a reflection on grey hair, a poem, an Instagram struggle, or a conversation about changing direction in midlife.
We want Closer Lives to make room for all of those journeys, because lives are rarely lived in neat categories.

If creativity or connection brought you here, there is space for that too. Closer Lives is not about chasing a version of freedom that looks impressive from the outside. It is about paying closer attention to the life in front of you, wherever you are in the world.
We are grateful to have you here for the journey.
Until next time,
