After spending another extended period in Doi Saket, the part of Thailand we seem to gravitate back to year after year, it was finally time for us to begin the long journey back to England.
Our route would take us from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, followed by an overnight flight to Doha and an 18-hour layover in Qatar before continuing to London. With so much travelling ahead of us, we decided to turn our final night in Thailand into something special.
Jenn found an excellent rate at the five-star Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to enjoy a little comfort before the airports, connections, and long flights began.
Although we were only staying for one night and had to leave at 5 a.m. the following morning, the hotel made an immediate impression.
From its direct connection to the Bangkok BTS system and warm welcome to our spacious room, Regency Club access, and spectacular rooftop views, it was a memorable clubway to say goodbye to Thailand.
Disclosure: We paid for our original hotel booking ourselves. Yes. Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit earned a full 5 out of 5 from us. We loved its convenient BTS connection, spacious upgraded room, excellent service and impressive rooftop venue. The Regency Club was a particular highlight, with delicious food, included drinks and skyline views. Although it is a higher-end option, we felt the overall experience offered excellent value.

Why We Chose the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit
Our stay was really intended as an exit present to ourselves after another long period in Thailand.
Over the last five years, we have spent the best part of a year in Doi Saket and the wider Chiang Mai area across several visits. It has become one of the places where we feel most settled, so leaving always comes with mixed emotions.
Rather than travelling straight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok’s international airport and waiting for our onward flight, we decided to spend one night in the capital.
The Hyatt Regency appealed to us because it combined five-star comfort with an extremely convenient location beside the BTS Skytrain.
It was on the higher end of what we would normally pay for a short hotel stay, but Jenn found a promotional rate that made it feel much more reasonable. As a special final night in Thailand, we thought it was worth trying.
The stay also marked the beginning of our journey to England, which also included our 18-hour Doha layover and Discover Doha Transit Tour.

First Impressions and Check-In
Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is located just off the busy Sukhumvit Road, but the entrance is recessed from the street behind a landscaped frontage. That small amount of separation helps the hotel feel calmer than the surrounding area might suggest.
The hotel is directly connected to Nana BTS station by an elevated skybridge. This made arriving with our luggage considerably easier, especially in Bangkok’s heat.
One detail worth knowing is that the raised walkway does not lead directly into the ground-floor reception area. When approaching from the BTS connection, you need to descend to the ground floor to reach the main lobby and check-in desks.
Once inside, we received an extremely warm welcome from the staff. We were offered a cold, fruity welcome drink that was exactly what we needed after travelling across the city in the heat.
The lobby immediately gave us the sense that we had arrived somewhere special. It felt polished and luxurious without being uncomfortably formal, and the service was friendly from the beginning.
Our Upgraded Room on the 24th Floor
After mentioning Closer Lives and explaining that we planned to share our stay on the website, the hotel kindly provided us with a complimentary room upgrade.
Our room was located on the 24th floor and had an impressive view across Bangkok. The floor-to-ceiling windows brought plenty of natural light into the room and made the city feel like part of the experience.
Our bright and spacious upgraded room offered floor-to-ceiling views across Bangkok. The wonderfully comfortable bed came with plenty of pillows, always an important detail for us. Bedside controls and an adjustable reading light made it easy to manage the room lighting. Looking down between the surrounding skyscrapers from our room on the 24th floor. Practical in-room storage included a minibar fridge, shelving and a secure safe. The minibar offered a selection of drinks and snacks, with prices displayed beside it. Complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee were provided inside the room.

The room included a large and exceptionally comfortable bed, a television, a small table and seating area, and enough space to avoid feeling enclosed. As we were only staying for one night, we did not have much time to investigate the television or entertainment options, but everything we did use worked exactly as expected.
The bed is always one of the most important parts of a hotel review for us, particularly before a long journey. This one passed the test easily. It was very comfortable and came with plenty of pillows, something we both appreciate and do not always find in hotels.
The Bathroom and Room Amenities
The bathroom was one of the strongest features of the room.
It was spacious, beautifully finished, and equipped with both a separate walk-in shower and a bathtub.
After travelling from Chiang Mai and preparing for a long international journey, having the option of a proper bath added to the sense that this was more than an ordinary airport stopover.
The spacious vanity area featured a large illuminated mirror and complimentary toiletries. The bathroom featured a separate walk-in rainfall shower with a sleek marble-effect finish. A full-size bathtub made the upgraded bathroom feel especially luxurious.
Complimentary toiletries were provided, along with the usual practical amenities such as a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, and in-room safe.
There was also a minibar with a selection of snacks and drinks. We found the prices relatively reasonable for a five-star hotel, although minibar prices and contents can change.
One small feature that made a meaningful difference was the universal electrical outlets. Being able to connect our devices without searching for an adapter is always welcome, especially when we are charging phones, cameras, and laptops before a travel day. USB connections were also available.
What Is the Regency Club?
The Regency Club is not a separate membership club that guests simply join in the usual sense. Access is normally included with eligible club rooms and suites.
Depending on availability and the conditions attached to a reservation, the hotel may also offer guests the opportunity to pay for a room or Club-access upgrade. Anyone interested should confirm the available options and price directly with the hotel before or during check-in.
Located on the 27th floor, the Regency Club is an exclusive lounge where eligible guests can relax, work, or enjoy some quiet time away from the busier public areas of the hotel.
The space includes comfortable seating, books, games, work areas, and indoor and outdoor sections overlooking Bangkok. The balcony was particularly impressive, with expansive views across the surrounding city.
Is the Regency Club Worth It?
Based on our experience, we would highly recommend the Regency Club if it fits your budget and the way you plan to use the hotel.
We arrived at the club at around 4 p.m., just in time to enjoy the afternoon food selection available during our visit. The buffet included small canapés, nuts, cold selections, cheeses, and desserts.
Everything we tried was beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. Even though these were described as snacks and hors d’oeuvres, the quality was much closer to what we would expect from a high-end restaurant.
The evening canapé service began later and offered a broader selection of hot and cold dishes. Leon rarely resists a curry when he sees one, so that naturally became the centerpiece of his plate. Jenn sampled a selection of the other dishes, and we were both extremely impressed with the quality.
Guests could choose from a wide selection of drinks during the Regency Club service. The beautifully presented buffet included a colourful selection of salads and cold dishes. The open kitchen allowed us to watch the chefs preparing dishes during the evening service. The evening buffet offered plenty of variety, with fresh vegetables, cold selections and accompanime
Hot and cold drinks were included, with selected adult beverages available to guests of legal drinking age.
Table service was attentive throughout our visit. Staff regularly checked whether anyone needed anything and cleared used plates quickly without making the service feel intrusive.
The Regency Club offered a stylish and peaceful setting in which to relax above Bangkok. We arrived in time to enjoy the beautifully presented afternoon canapé selection. Comfortable sofas and quiet seating areas made the Club suitable for relaxing or working. Several different seating areas gave guests space to dine, work or enjoy some quiet time. Window-side tables provided impressive views across the surrounding Bangkok skyline. The evening selection was substantial enough to serve as our meal before visiting the rooftop bar. The outdoor balcony was one of our favourite features, offering expansive views across Bangkok.

Arrive Early for the Evening Service
Our most important Regency Club tip would be to arrive when the evening service begins.
We were there almost from opening time, and within approximately 15 to 20 minutes, nearly every available seating area had been taken. The lounge did not feel overcrowded, but guests arriving later were left with considerably fewer options.
This is particularly worth considering if you hope to sit outside or secure a table beside the windows.
The club was peaceful earlier in the afternoon, making it a good place to work, read, or relax. The atmosphere changed during the evening service as more guests arrived, although the staff continued to manage the space extremely well.
At the time of writing, Hyatt lists afternoon snacks from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and evening canapés from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. These times can change, so check the official Regency Club information before your stay.
Breakfast & Market Café
The Hyatt Regency’s main restaurant, Market Café, is located on the fourth floor.
The dining area is much larger than we expected, with several beautifully decorated sections and plenty of seating. One of our favorite features was the open kitchen, where guests can see the chefs preparing food.
Market Café serves the hotel’s international breakfast buffet, with Asian, Western, and other international choices alongside pastries, fruit, and live cooking stations.
Unfortunately, our schedule meant we could not try it ourselves. We had to leave the hotel at around 5 a.m., shortly before breakfast began.
Given the quality of the food we experienced in the Regency Club, we would have been very interested to try the main buffet. However, because we did not eat there, we cannot offer a firsthand verdict on the breakfast itself.
The hotel currently lists breakfast from 5.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. on weekdays and until 11 a.m. on weekends and public holidays. Check the official Market Café page for the latest times.
For anyone who prefers to pick up their own snacks or travel supplies, there was also a 7-Eleven directly across from the hotel during our stay.
Spectrum Lounge & Bar: Bangkok Views from the Rooftop
One of the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit’s signature attractions is Spectrum Lounge & Bar, located across the upper floors of the hotel.
The first level offered an impressive mixture of seating areas, booths, and quieter corners. There was a DJ, a large screen, and plenty of carefully designed lighting, but the venue still retained a comfortable lounge atmosphere.
The outdoor areas provided spectacular views across the Bangkok skyline. Seeing the city illuminated from this height was one of the highlights of our stay.
Tropical greenery and creative lighting added warmth to the outdoor seating areas. A candlelit table overlooking the rooftop provided a peaceful place to enjoy the atmosphere. Spectrum offered plenty of tables, booths and quieter corners across its different levels. Bangkok’s illuminated skyline created a spectacular backdrop for our evening at Spectrum. The upper rooftop level was noticeably quieter during our visit and offered excellent city views. The rooftop bar combined panoramic views with distinctive purple lighting and modern design.

A second rooftop level had additional seating and was much quieter while we were there. The combination of open-air space, modern lighting, and panoramic views made it easy to understand why Spectrum has become such a recognized Bangkok rooftop venue.

Swimming Pool and Fitness Center
The hotel’s recreation facilities are located on the sixth floor.
These include an outdoor freeform swimming pool surrounded by greenery, a whirlpool, poolside seating, lockers, and a steam room. Despite being in the middle of Bangkok, the landscaping helps the pool area feel relatively sheltered from the city.
Greenery and modern design created an inviting entrance to the sixth-floor pool area. The curved pool felt surprisingly peaceful despite its central Bangkok location. Surrounded by high-rises, the outdoor pool offered a relaxing escape from the city below. Shaded loungers and tropical greenery provided comfortable places to relax beside the pool.
The fitness center is open 24 hours and includes cardio equipment, strength-training equipment, and free weights, with elevated views across Bangkok.
Our short stay and early departure meant we did not have enough time to make proper use of either facility. For guests staying for several nights, however, they add considerably more value to the hotel experience.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit officially opened in December 2018, becoming the first Hyatt Regency-branded hotel in Bangkok.
The hotel forms part of a 31-story mixed-use development and was designed to reinterpret the feeling of a modern Thai home. Contemporary interiors, landscaped areas, locally influenced furnishings, and Thai artwork are used throughout the property.

How to Get to Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit
Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit is located at 1 Sukhumvit Soi 13, Bangkok 10110, in the heart of the Sukhumvit district.
One of the hotel’s greatest advantages is its direct connection to Nana BTS station. This makes it particularly convenient for exploring Bangkok without relying on taxis or dealing with the city’s unpredictable traffic.
By BTS Skytrain
Nana Station on the BTS Sukhumvit Line is the closest station to the hotel.
Take Exit 3 and follow the covered elevated skybridge towards Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit. The walkway connects with the hotel building, although you will need to descend to the ground floor to reach the main reception and check-in area.
We found this connection extremely convenient while travelling with our luggage, particularly because it allowed us to avoid walking at street level in Bangkok’s heat.
The nearby Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT interchange is also approximately an 8 to 10-minute walk away, providing easy connections to other parts of the city. Hyatt confirms both transport connections on its official hotel information page.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport
Suvarnabhumi Airport is approximately 30 kilometers from the hotel. The journey by taxi or private transfer usually takes around 45 minutes to one hour, although it can take longer during Bangkok’s busiest periods.

● Take the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai.
● Transfer to the BTS Sukhumvit Line at Phaya Thai.
● Travel to Nana BTS station.
● Use Exit 3 and follow the covered skybridge towards the hotel.
This is generally the most predictable option during heavy traffic, although the transfer at Phaya Thai may be less convenient with large or multiple suitcases.
From Don Mueang International Airport
Don Mueang Airport is approximately 25 kilometers from the hotel. A taxi or prearranged transfer is likely to be the easiest option when travelling with luggage.
Public transport is also possible. One route is to take an airport bus to the Mo Chit BTS area, then use the BTS Sukhumvit Line to travel directly to Nana station. Journey times vary according to traffic, waiting times, and the airport bus service.
By Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service
Taxis and app-based ride services are widely available throughout Bangkok. Enter the hotel’s complete name and address to avoid confusion with other Hyatt properties in the city.
Traffic along Sukhumvit Road can become extremely heavy, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. Allow additional time if you are travelling to the airport, railway station, or an attraction with a fixed entry time.
Parking at the Hotel
On-site parking is available and is complimentary for overnight guests and customers using the hotel’s facilities. If you are visiting without staying, check the latest parking rates and validation conditions with the hotel.

Unless you are arriving directly from an airport with several bags, the BTS is generally the easiest way to reach the hotel. Nana Station's covered connection makes this one of the most conveniently located hotels we have experienced in Bangkok.

Hotel prices in Bangkok can change significantly according to the season, room category, booking platform, and available promotions.
We booked during a sale and felt the rate was reasonable for the location and five-star standard. However, the complimentary room and Regency Club upgrade added considerable value to our particular stay, so this should be considered when comparing our experience with a standard booking.

The location was exceptionally convenient, our room was spacious and comfortable, the service was consistently friendly, and the Regency Club became one of the highlights of our stay.
The rooftop views gave us a memorable final evening in Thailand, while the comfortable bed, practical room amenities, and direct BTS connection made the hotel equally functional.
It sits toward the higher end of Bangkok’s hotel price range, but the quality matched the five-star positioning, and we felt the promotional rate we booked represented great value. We would absolutely stay here again.
