1. Canada is the second-largest country in the world by land area, covering almost 10 million square kilometers. To put that in perspective, the United Kingdom can fit into Canada nearly 40 times!


If that is not incredible enough, the fact that Canada has a population of 38 million, roughly half that of the UK, really is mind-boggling!


2. The Canadian flag, also known as the Maple Leaf flag, was adopted in 1965 and features a red maple leaf on a white background with red borders.


3. Canada is a bilingual country, with English and French as its two official languages. French is predominantly spoken in the province of Quebec; however.


Quebec is also the only province that has all-French signage on roads and stores, along with all-French product packaging.  


4. The national animal of Canada is the beaver, which is also depicted on the Canadian nickel.


5. Canada has the longest coastline in the world, stretching over 202,080 kilometers along the Atlantic, Arctic, and Pacific oceans.


6. The Canadian Rockies, which run through the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, are home to some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world.


7. The world's largest non-polar glacier, the Stikine Icecap, is located in British Columbia, Canada.


8. Canada has the highest number of lakes in the world, with over 31,000 lakes that cover almost 9% of the country's total area.


9. The CN Tower, located in Toronto, was the tallest free-standing structure in the world until 2007 when it was replaced by the Burj Khalifa. At 553m, it is still the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere.


In 2008, glass panels were installed in one of the CN Tower elevators, which established a world record (346 m) for the highest glass floor panelled elevator in the world.
